Top military commander Gen. Yaşar Büyükanıt said Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s official visit to Baghdad will have positive repercussions for bilateral relations.

Erdoğan and the Land Force Commander Gen. İlker Başbuğ exchanged views on Tuesday about measures against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, terror. U.S. Ambassador to Ankara Ross Wilson acknowledged Turkey’s contributions to the normalization process in northern Iraq.

The German Interior Ministry announced broadcasts on ROJ TV, as the PKK’s press organ, are banned in the country. Hüseyin Mahir, leaders of the PKK’s military wing, HPG, threatened that the group will escalate the violence until they force Turkey to come to a peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue.

Germany bans Kurdish television channel

Germany, on Tuesday, banned the broadcasting of a Kurdish television station within its borders because it would be regarded as promotion of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said. He also said the Danish-based, Roj TV was a PKK “mouthpiece” and ordered the closure of a production house that supplies the channel with programming.

Başer complains of European indifference to PKK, secularism concerns

Turkey’s former coordinator against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, yesterday criticized European Union countries for their ignorance of the country’s fight against terrorism. 
Retired Gen. Edip Başer, speaking at a panel hosted by the German Konrad Adenauer Foundation, said the Turkish public was extremely concerned by the “insincere” European attitude.

He complained that PKK members were being harbored in European territory and that the leaders of the group, wanted on Interpol’s Red Bulletin, were not being extradited to Turkey.

Barzani: PKK not a terrorist organization

A senior Iraqi Kurdish leader made controversial statements to an Italian newspaper that might inflame the budding diplomacy between Turkey and northern Iraq on the eve of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to the country, it was reported yesterday.

During a recent visit to Italy, the president of the Regional Kurdish Administration in northern Iraq, Massoud Barzani, told Italian newspaper Il Tempo that Kirkuk was a part of ‘Kurdistan’ and that the (outlawed) Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, were not terrorists, reported daily Milliyet yesterday.

Kyrgyzstan puts PKK on terror list

Kyrgyzstan has listed the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, as a terrorist organization, a spokesperson for the Kyrgyz chief public prosecutor, Marat Kojumkulov, told the Anatolia News Agency yesterday. The spokesperson said the Kyrgyzstan government will take all necessary precautions against the PKK and its offshoots, which he said are threatening national security.
