Top military commander Gen. Yaşar Büyükanıt said Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s official visit to Baghdad will have positive repercussions for bilateral relations.

Erdoğan and the Land Force Commander Gen. İlker Başbuğ exchanged views on Tuesday about measures against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, terror. U.S. Ambassador to Ankara Ross Wilson acknowledged Turkey’s contributions to the normalization process in northern Iraq.

The German Interior Ministry announced broadcasts on ROJ TV, as the PKK’s press organ, are banned in the country. Hüseyin Mahir, leaders of the PKK’s military wing, HPG, threatened that the group will escalate the violence until they force Turkey to come to a peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue.

Wilson’s remarks signal that the Kurdish Regional Administration in northern Iraq will be pressured to turn against the PKK. And the PKK’s statement indicates terrorists plan acts of violence countrywide.

The terror organization, therefore, expects to pressure the Ankara government for democratic and political openings. Eyes turned to Erdoğan’s official visit to Baghdad as soon as Turkey begins a “hot summer” again.
