Nine Turkish soldiers were killed Monday in a landmine explosion in the eastern Turkish province of Erzincan, Turkish TV channels reported. Two others were also injured in the explosion.
Terrorists detonated a landmine near a road in Kemah district of Erzincan by a remote control while a military vehicle was passing by, said Ali Gungor, Governor of Erzincan.
Turkish police earlier on Monday shot dead a man who was trying to plant a bomb near a police station in a southern province of Turkey.
The man was killed in the shootout after a police officer noticed the man as he planted plastic explosives near the police station in Antakya, the Dogan News Agency reported.
There was no information on the identity of the man.
