Nine outlawed PKK separatists were killed in clashes with Turkish security forces in the eastern province of Bitlis and southeastern province of Mardin on Tuesday, the Anatolian Agency reported citing authorities.
A clash occurred between outlawed PKK separatists and security forces in Mardin’s Derik town, in which two members of the PKK were killed, the governor’s office said.
In a separate incident in Bitlis’ Mutki town, seven PKK separatists were killed in clashes with security forces. Three village guards were also killed in the clashes, while another was wounded.
Operations continue in the region against the outlawed PKK, the state-run Anatolian Agency added.
Turkey, provided with intelligence by the United States, has stepped up military action against the PKK since December.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by much of the international community including the United States and the EU.
