Five killed in bus attack ahead of critical vote in Turkish parliament

Four police, and a civilian driver were killed and 19 others injured in southeastern Turkey when unknown assailants with guns and explosives attacked a police vehicle, Interior Minister Besir Atalay said.

Unknown assailants with guns and explosives attacked a police bus in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, killing four policemen and injuring several others.         

The attack came as lawmakers debate whether to extend the Turkish military’s mandate to carry out cross-border operations against PKK terrorists in northern Iraq.

The police shuttle bus was carrying personnel working at the Ali Gaffar Okkan Police Career Academy.

CNN Turk said hand grenades were also used in the attack.

Four PKK members killed in southeastern Turkey

Four PKK terrorists were killed in clashes with Turkish security forces in southeastern Turkey, the army said late on Wednesday in a statement posted on its website.

The terrorists were killed in clashes in the Guclukonak district of Sirnak province, the Turkish army said.

The Turkish military had intensified its operations against PKK terrorists after 17 soldiers were killed in an attack on a military outpost. It launched several air operations and continuous artillery shelling was reported both within Turkey and northern Iraq.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by much of the international community including the United States and the EU.

Two more PKK separatists killed in southeastern Turkey

Two more members of the outlawed PKK have been killed in the ongoing military operation targeting those responsible for Friday’s deadly attack on Aktutun military outpost in the southeastern province of Hakkari, the army said in a statement posted on its website on Tuesday.

The latest deaths bring the number of terrorists killed in the military operation to 25.

The Turkish military had intensified its operations against PKK terrorists after 17 soldiers were killed in an attack on a military outpost. It launched several air operations and continuous artillery shelling was reported both within Turkey and northern Iraq.

Turkish warplanes bomb PKK positions in Turkey and northern Iraq

Turkish warjets had bombed 21 PKK positions in northern Iraq and southeastern region of the country, the army said in a statement on Tuesday.

The jets struck 21 targets belonging to the PKK in the Avasin-Basyan region in northern Iraq as well as the Buzul and Iki Yaka mountains in Turkey’s southeast, it said.

The bombing took place Tuesday morning, the statement said. “The planes returned safely to base after successfully completing their mission,” the statement added, without further details.

Turkey considers measures vs PKK, bodies of 2 missing soldiers found

The Turkish army said the bodies of two soldiers, missing since PKK’s attack on Friday, were found as the operations in the region continue.

The bodies of the two soldiers who had been reported missing were found by the Turkish Armed Forces, the army said in a statement posted in its website on Monday. The statement brought the number of soldiers killed in the attack to 17.

The PKK had attacked to an army post in the southeastern Turkey, killing 15 soldiers and injuring 20 others. Two soldiers were reported missing after the attack. The army said that 23 terrorists were killed in the clashes after the attack.

The terror organization on Monday has said it had the bodies of the missing soldiers, while a foreign news agency reported PKK held the soldiers but did not deny or confirm whether they are alive or not.

PKK claims taking two bodies of Turkish soldiers

The outlawed separatist PKK on Monday claimed it had the bodies of two Turkish soldiers killed in a raid last week in southeastern Turkey near the border with Iraq.

The PKK said in a statement its military wing known as “the Force of People of Kurdistan” had taken “two bodies of Turkish soldiers after the battle in the Shamzinyan area”, AFP reported.

Fifteen Turkish soldiers and 23 terrorists were killed in the clashes when PKK attacked a gendarmerie station in the southeastern province of Hakkari. Two more Turkish soldiers were reported missing. 

“The Turkish military used helicopters and we shot down one of them,” the PKK statement also claimed. “We captured a lot of weapons,” the AFP quoted the statement as saying.

Turkey buries fifteen soldiers killed in Friday’s deadly PKK attack

Turkey began burying the 15 soldiers killed in Friday’s bloody attack by outlawed PKK separatists as country’s civilian and military leaders vowed to step up efforts to end terror. Tens of thousands of people gathered around the country to attend the funerals and protest terror.

The flag-draped coffins of the killed soldiers were carried on the shoulders of fellow soldiers and family members amid calls for tougher action against the outlawed terror organization.

The large crowds gathered waved flags and shouted, “Damn the PKK, the martyrs are immortal,” ahead of the service.

President Abdullah Gul attended a funeral service held in the western city of Eskisehir, while Erdogan and Foreign Trade Minister Kursad Tuzmen participated in ceremonies in the central city of Kirikkale and Mersin province in the south, respectively.

Turkish army to transfer attacked stations, bombs PKK posts in N.Iraq

Turkish warplanes hit outlawed PKK positions in northern Iraq on Saturday. Meanwhile, Ankara and military officials on Sunday warned the Kurdish administration in its southeastern neighbor to tackle the terrorist organization.

The Turkish military says warplanes have bombed PKK separatist’s bases in northern Iraq, the General Staff said in a statement posted on its website.

The bombs hit Iraq’s Avasin Basyan region on Saturday after the PKK attack that killed 15 Turkish soldiers on Friday, but added that no ground troops entered Iraq, the statement said, adding that the air raids only targeted the PKK bases and that the necessary precautions were shown to avoid civilian casualties.
