Six Turkish soldiers killed, eight injured in mine blast in Southeast

Six Turkish soldiers were killed and eight others were injured when a landmine planted by the terrorist organization PKK exploded in the southeastern part of the country, the military said on Thursday.

The blast occurred at 11:40 p.m. (GMT 20:40) on Wednesday when the soldiers’ military vehicle struck a remotely controlled landmine on a road in the Cukurca district of the southeastern province of Hakkari, the Turkish military said in a statement posted on its website.

Turkish gendarmerie detain more than 30 in anti-terror operation

Turkish security forces detained more than 30 people Thursday in simultaneous operations to crack down on suspected supporters of the terrorist organization PKK.

The state-run Anatolian Agency reported operations were launched in five provinces including Istanbul and Ankara, and the western cities of Izmir and Manisa as well as the eastern province of Van.

Two PKK terrorists killed during security operation in eastern Turkey

Two PKK terrorists were killed in a clash with Turkish security forces in eastern Turkey, Anatolian Agency reported on Sunday quoting the local governor.

The fighting took place during a security operation targeting the terrorist PKK organization near the town of Malazgirt in Mus province, Gov. Erdogan Bektas told the agency.

Security forces were investigating whether one of the terrorists was behind a rocket attack last year on a police station in Malazgirt that killed one officer and wounded three others, he added. Read the rest of this entry »



Four PKK terrorists killed in southeastern Turkey

Four PKK terrorists were killed in a clash with Turkish security forces in the southeastern part of the country, the army said late on Friday.

The clash took place in the Lice district of Diyarbakir province during a military operation there, the Turkish militarty said in a statement.

Kalashnikov assault rifles, ammunition, hand grenades and PKK documents were seized in the aftermath of the clash, it added.

The terrorists were believed to be among those responsible for an attack on a military vehicle at the end of April in which nine soldiers were killed, Dogan News Agency said. Read the rest of this entry »



Seven PKK terrorists killed in southeastern Turkey

Seven PKK terrorists were killed in clashes with Turkish security forces in the southeastern part of the country, the army said on Saturday.

One village guard was also killed and another was injured in the clashes in the Eruh district of the southeastern province of Siirt, the military said in a statement posted on its website.

The Turkish military launched an operation in the area following a mine explosion in Eruh that killed one village guard and injured another on Friday.

The PKK, which launches cross-border attacks on Turkey from bases in northern Iraq and frequently uses remote-control landmines to target the country’s security forces, is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey and much of the international community, including the EU and the United States.  Read the rest of this entry »



Two village guards, three PKK terrorists killed in southeast Turkey

Two village guards were killed in clashes with PKK terrorists in a southeastern Turkish province on Friday, Dogan News Agency said. Three PKK terrorists were also killed in the clashes, it added.

Special gendarmerie forces were dispatched to the region by helicopter after the incident in the Eruh district of the southeastern province of Siirt.

The blast in the Cukurca district of the southeastern province of Hakkari occurred during a patrol mission.

Turkish military launches operation after landmine kills 5 in Southeast

The military launched a wide ground operation in search of terrorist PKK organization members after a roadside bomb killed five, including two village guards, in Turkey’s southeastern Sirnak province on Saturday.

The ground forces were supported by Cobra helicopters, according to the Dogan news agency.
