Turkish soldier killed, two injured in landmine blast in Southeast

12 05 2009

One Turkish soldier was killed and two others were injured when a landmine planted by PKK terrorists exploded in a southeastern province, news agencies reported.

The blast in the Cukurca district of the southeastern province of Hakkari occurred during a patrol mission.

The wounded soldiers were rushed to a military hospital in Hakkari, reports added.

The PKK, which launches cross-border attacks on Turkey from bases in northern Iraq and frequently uses remote-control landmines to target the country’s security forces, is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey and much of the international community, including the EU and the United States.
