Twenty-six PKK-linked terrorists killed in Iran

Twenty-six members of an outlawed group linked with the terror organization PKK were killed in northwestern Iran in an operation carried out by Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards, according to reports on Sunday.

An Iranian commander said an operation against terrorists groups in the northwestern part of the country has delivered a “deadly blow” to the PEJAK, the PKK’s breakaway faction in Iran.

“In an operation to clean up the West Azerbaijan and Kurdistan provinces of counter-revolutionary and terrorist groups, 26 of the agents were killed,” Mohammad Pakpoor, commander of the Revolutionary Guards ground forces, was quoted by the Fars news agency as saying.

The commander did not make clear in which period the operation took place, but said no one from the guards forces were killed.

He vowed a further “crackdown on any instigators of insecurity directed by foreign or internal counter-revolutionaries” in the region.

Western Iran has seen deadly clashes in recent years between Iranian security forces and the PEJAK operating from rear-bases in neighboring Iraq.

Iran and Turkey have been long fighting against the terrorist movements operated by both the PEJAK and the PKK, which is considered a terrorist organization by Ankara and most of the international community, including the European Union and the United States.
