General Staff: Operations will continue
12 09 2009A spokesperson for Turkey’s General Staff said on Friday that the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) will continue its operations against the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
In a weekly press conference, Ferit Güler, secretary-general of the General Staff, responded to a question by a reporter about the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party’s (DTP) recent call to the TSK to stop operations against the PKK. Güler said: “As you know, the TSK will continue its activities as planned until the last terrorist is killed.”
DTP officials recently said that the operations of the TSK are undermining the government’s recent efforts to settle the Kurdish issue and called on it to stop operations.
DTP co-chairpersons Ahmet Türk and Emine Ayna held a press conference at the party’s headquarters to comment on the statement of the General Staff. Türk said, “We want Turkey to enter a normalization process.” Claiming that operations to exclude the DTP from the political scene have gained momentum in recent days, Türk said these procedures prevent the public from taking part in organized activities in democratic ways.
