Turkish soldier dies in fight with PKK
15 09 2009A soldier was killed in a Turkish military operation against separatist terrorists in the town of Çukurca in Hakkari province on Monday. Cpl. Mustafa Güler, 23, who had started his military service just a month ago, was killed in an operation in Kazan Valley against members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Güler’s body was taken to Hakkari Military Hospital.
Güler, who was from the Black Sea province of Ordu, had applied to join the military as a special corporal three months ago to fulfill his mandatory military service, and his request was approved one month ago. The governor of Ordu’s Ünye district, Osman Günaydın, and military officials broke the news to the Güler family. Meanwhile, eight PKK terrorists have been captured after four days of fighting in ongoing operations near the village of Kavşak in Kazan Valley.
