Ambush in Samsun kills two police officers
18 04 2010Two police officers were killed under cross-fire in an ambush Saturday night in the Ladik district of Samsun.
Unidentified assailants who hid themselves on a five storey construction opened fire with rifles on a police patrol. Police Officer Huseyin Koc was killed instantly in the car while, Malik Soysal who was heavily wounded, died in the hospital.
Samsun Governor Hasan Basri Guzeloglu told reporters after the attack that initial findings suggested the attack was a terrorist ambush. A wide scale operation was launched to catch the assailants after the attack, said Guzeloglu.
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the attack with a message. Erdogan said, “such malicious attacks targeting Turkey’s peace, unity and solidarity can never reach their aims. The damned mentality behind these attacks which hope to benefit from terror, is bound to fail thanks to the common sense, nonchalance of our nation and determination of our state.”
