In an operation against the alleged urban organization of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ party, or PKK, seven people were detained Friday in the eastern province of Van, Anatolia news agency reported.

A simultaneous operation was held in three neighborhoods in Van against the illegal Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) organization.

Meanwhile, PKK militants fired a rocket at an armored police vehicle in the southeastern province of Hakkari’s Çukurca district on Thursday, wounding two police officers, a local security source told AFP. Early Friday, militants opened fire on a team bound for the region to investigate the incident and shot another two policemen, news agencies reported.

The vehicle was on patrol near the town of Çukurça in Hakkari province, close to the border with Iraq, when a rocket was fired from the surrounding mountainside. Hakkari Gov. Muammer Türker told Anatolia news agency that entry to the province has been blocked and a broad security operation has been launched.

Security forces asked for testimonies from locals in the area. One of the locals said bullets hit her house as well. Zozan Adıyaman said she got her four children into a room upon hearing the shots and hid them.

On Thursday night, harassment fire was opened over the police department and police housing nearby in the eastern province of Van. No injuries or casualties were reported. An explosive material was also thrown at a police station in the southeastern province of Mardin’s Nusaybin district on Thursday night. No casualties were reported, but property damage occurred.
