Landmine kills 10 in Turkey: security official

A landmine believed to have been planted by Kurdish rebels blew up a minibus in southeast Turkey on Thursday, killing 10 people in one of the bloodiest attacks on civilians in recent years.

The vehicle was carrying Kurdish villagers to Hakkari city when it hit the mine near Gecitli, a remote village in Hakkari province, on the border with Iraq and Iran, a local security source said on condition of anonymity. Denmark charges Kurdish TV for promoting PKK

Prosecutors said Tuesday they have charged Roj TV, a Copenhagen-based Kurdish TV network, with supporting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), listed as a terrorist group by the European Union.

In a statement, chief prosecutor Lise-Lotte Nilas said the decision was taken following an investigation into Roj TV’s programming that began in 2005.

“We carefully examined a series of programmes on Roj TV, and our evaluation is that they have a character of propaganda for the PKK, which is a terrorist organisation,” she said. Read the rest of this entry »
