Two police officers were killed in the eastern province of Tunceli after their vehicle ran over a mine Wednesday, the same day that three blast bombs rocked a police headquarters in Mersin, lightly injuring one police officer.

An assailant identified as Cihan Tamer who participated in an attack on a police vehicle in the Black Sea province of Kastamonu on May 4 turned himself in Tuesday with his weapon and equipment, according to the Doğan News Agency, or DHA.

One police officer was killed and another was injured during the assault on May 4 against a convoy taking top aides to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan back to Ankara after an election rally in Kastamonu. The European Union has strongly condemned an attack on a dormitory in that southeastern province of Şırnak last week that caused burn-related injuries to three students.

A group of terrorists from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attacked a 13th century building in Şırnak’s Cizre district on Wednesday. The building, historically used as a medrese and also boasting a shrine to the Kurdish mystic Malaye Jaziri on its grounds, was the victim of the attack just days after an attack on a dormitory hosting religious students from an imam-hatip school.
