Three soldiers killed in a clash in southeastern Turkey

Three soldiers were killed in an ambush laid by PKK terrorists in the southeastern province of Mardin.

One injured in mine explosion in Hakkari

One person was injured when a landmine planted by terrorists exploded after a car passed over it in southeastern province of Hakkari.

According to the web site of the Turkish General Staff, a civilian car, heading from Semdinli town to Buyuktepe region, crossed over the explosive on Monday. One person was injured in the blast. The injured person is under treatment at hospital. Read the rest of this entry »



4 soldiers killed in clashes with PKK over the weekend

Suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, shot dead three Turkish soldiers in an ambush late Saturday night in a village in the southeastern province of Mardin, security sources said Sunday.

2 Turkish men arrested in Germany for PKK links

German prosecutors say they have arrested two Turkish men on charges they belong to the banned Kurdish separatist group PKK.

The federal prosecutors’ office said Tuesday that Mehmet A., 28, was arrested in Freiburg and Ridvan O., 28, in Duesseldorf. PKK guerrillas have been fighting for self-rule in southeastern Turkey since 1984 and the two apprehended Sunday are suspected of trying to recruit new members. Read the rest of this entry »



Two militants killed in Iraq-Iran border

Two Iranian Kurdish militants based in Iraq were killed during hours of clashes with Tehran’s forces along the two countries’ border, a spokesman said on Sunday.

The fighting, which also saw four militants wounded, comes less than a week after the Islamic Republic warned that it reserved the right to attack the bases of the PJAK which is closely allied with the Turkish Kurdish terrorist group, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, listed as a terrorist group by Ankara and much of the international community. “Since midnight heavy battles have been ongoing between PJAK and the Iranian army, resulting in injuries among elements of our group,” militant spokesman Sherzad Kamankar said. Ambush sparks fury, grief

PM Erdoğan responds with strong words to a deadly terrorist attack that killed 13 soldiers, saying ‘security forces will make them pay heavily for that’

Thirteen soldiers killed in an ambush the day before were laid to rest in a ceremony Friday as an outpouring of fury and grief swept the nation. At least seven members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, were also killed in the clashes, which took place Thursday near the southeastern province of Diyarbakır’s Silvan district.

“Security forces will make them pay heavily for that,” Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in a strong response. President Abdullah Gül and the leaders of the two main opposition parties joined the prime minister in condemning the attack. Holding an extra ordinary session, the Parliament also condemned the assault.

Turkey vows to stick to democratic reforms despite heinous terror attacks

The Turkish government has vowed to continue its reform and democratization process, including the Kurdish initiative, despite the brutal killings of 13 Turkish soldiers by terrorists from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on Thursday. The government also underscored its strong will to fight terrorism.

“Turkey, without compromising democracy, the law or brotherhood, will tackle terrorism and the forces behind it. While the suffering of our soldiers pains our hearts, it also strengthens our resolve in the fight against terrorism,” Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said. The prime minister also underlined that the goal of the forces behind such attacks is obvious, signaling that the terrorist organization is trying to halt the democratic reforms currently being undertaken in Turkey.

Police officer died in attack in Siirt

A police officer was killed in an attack by unknown assailants late on Friday in southeastern province of Siirt.

Anatolia news agency reported that a police car was attacked by unknown people late on Friday and the police officer Osman Demire was injured. He was taken to Siirt State Hospital for treatment. But he was later died at the hospital.

The attack came a day after the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members attacked Turkish forces in Diyarbakır, leaving 13 soldiers and seven PKK members dead. It was the deadliest violence involving the PKK in three years. Read the rest of this entry »



NATO condemns Kurd attack in Turkey

NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Friday strongly condemned an attack by rebel Kurds on Turkish troops that left 13 soldiers dead.
