Turkey and USA create global counter-terrorism forum

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said that Turkey and the United States had created a global counter-terrorism forum which included more than 30 countries.

“I have been in New York for the last ten days to attend the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly. I had the chance to hold a series of bilateral talks with foreign ministers of many countries. International community assess activities and influences of countries on the basis of their actions at the UN General Assembly. Given to this, Turkey has an increasing global influence. This year, Turkey has been one of the most active countries during the UN General Assembly meetings,” Davutoglu told a news conference at the Turkevi (Turkish House) in New York. Turkey, France to sign cooperation agreement to fight terrorism

Turkey and France will sign next week an agreement to cooperate in countering terrorism.

French Interior Minister Claude Gueant will pay a formal visit to the Turkish capital of Ankara on October 6, and the two countries will sign an agreement on cooperation in domestic security.

Gueant and Turkish Interior Minister Idris Naim Sahin will put their signatures under the agreement which will cover concrete cooperation mechanisms in combatting terrorism. Read the rest of this entry »



PKK attack kills two civilians in Batman

Two civilians were killed Monday night when suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, opened fire on police officers and civilians in the southeastern province of Batman.

Mizgin Doğrul, a 35-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant, and her 4-year-old daughter were killed in the attack.

Doğrul’s unborn baby was saved, but the attack wounded two more children from the same family, one of whom is in critical condition. Three police officers were also injured. Read the rest of this entry »



Six soldiers die in southeastern Turkey

Three dead in clash in SE Turkey

Three people were killed Wednesday night in Van province in southeastern Turkey in an armed conflict between security forces and alleged members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK.

Obama meets Erdoğan after Ankara bomb blast

U.S. President Barack Obama offered condolences over a bomb blast in Ankara Tuesday, as he sat down with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a key Middle East ally.

Four civilians die in PKK attack in SE Turkey

Alleged members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, attacked a civilian vehicle near a police college in the southeastern province of Siirt on Tuesday, killing four women Doğan News Agency, or DHA, reported.
