Five Turkish soldiers wounded in mine attack

Five soldiers were wounded today in a landmine attack in the eastern Turkish province of Bitlis.

The landmines were reportedly activated by alleged members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) while an army vehicle was passing through. The explosion left five of the soldiers wounded, who were taken immediately to nearby hospitals. Read the rest of this entry »



Don’t be harsh on us for KCK, Bağış tells EU

Turkey’s EU minister has asked EU countries to tone down their criticism of recent operations against the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK).

While the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is on the EU’s list of terrorist organizations, the criticisms Europe has made on action taken toward the KCK, the alleged urban wing of the PKK, is not consistent with Europe’s approach to counter-terrorism, Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bağış said yesterday. Turkish Minister for European Union (EU) Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said Tuesday that terrorist organization PKK was a threat to Turkey as well as Europe.

The Syrian government has this week once again provided a training camp for the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) after a hiatus of 12 years, seen as a response to Turkey’s criticism of the Syrian regime for its brutal crackdown on anti-regime protests.

One soldier killed in PKK attack on civilian vehicle

A sergeant major died and a civilian officer was wounded in an armed attack by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the southeastern province of Mardin’s Nusaybin district Monday.

Mardin Gov. Turhan Ayvaz said the armed attack happened while the sergeants were in a vehicle. Sgt. Oktay Aydoğan died and civil servant Rıfat Un was injured. Un was being treated in Nusaybin State Hospital.

Turkish forces engage 80 PKK militants in eastern Turkey

Turkish military launched an operation on a large group of militants in a rural area in the eastern province of Tunceli today.

Around 80 suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were located by Turkish security forces near the Aliboğazı area in Tunceli’s Hozat district earlier in the day.

Soldiers from the 51st Infantry Battalion and gendarmerie special forces from Hozat were dropped by helicopters to strategic points in the area, while Cobra gunships bombarded designated targets. Read the rest of this entry »



Turkey foils PKK attack on oil pipeline: source

Turkish security forces foiled an attempted bombing blamed on Kurdish rebels on a vital oil pipeline in the southeast of the country on Sunday, local security sources said.

Turkish premier says Europe still condones terrorist organization

Turkish prime minister said on Tuesday that Europe was still condoning terrorist organization.

Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said there was a terrorist organization that was staging cruel attacks on security forces, taking civilians as target and massacring children, a pregnant woman and an unborn.
