Two Turkish soldiers were killed, 10 others were wounded in a clash with terrorists in southeastern province of Hakkari.

In a statement released on Monday, Orham Alimoglu, governor of Hakkari, said that a clash erupted between security forces and terrorists in rural area of Semdinli town in Hakkari on Sunday.

PKK using ‘Colombian’ method in protecting drug fields

The outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is allegedly mining the roads leading to its cannabis fields in Southeast Anatolia, security sources have said in the wake of a massive raid against the group’s alleged drug sources, noting that the practice was employed in Colombia.

Following an anti-drugs operation that featured 1,700 personnel, four helicopters and 16 armored vehicles in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, security sources alleged that the PKK was laying mines and hand-made explosives on roads leading to cannabis fields and their surroundings to produce “liberated crime zones” that are also seen in Colombia.

According to the sources, the PKK encouraged the planting of cannabis in the highlands of Diyarbakır’s Lice, Kulp, Hani, Dicle, Eğil, Kocaköy, Hazro and Silvan districts and their villages. The highlands also provide shelter for members of the group, the sources said.

PKK sets truck on fire, kidnaps driver

Members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members set a pickup truck on fire in the southeastern province of Hakkari’s Şemdinli district on July 22. The truck was rendered unusable and the whereabouts of its driver are unknown.

The truck was being used at a road construction site in the Mehende area between the villages of Beyurdu and Aktütün, 40 kilometers from Şemdinli. The truck burst into flames and was rendered unusable. No news has been received from its driver. Security forces have launched an operation in the region to render the PKK members ineffective and locate the truck driver, who is believed to have been kidnapped by the PKK members.

PKK attacks military barracks in eastern Turkey

The outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) organized an armed attack on a military barracks in the town of Özalp in the eastern province of Van on the night of June 30, using long-barreled weapons. No injuries or deaths were reported.

The attack took place around 9:30 p.m. and was directed against the Master Sgt. Erkan Durukan Barracks. The terrorists attacked to barracks with long-barreled weapons and rockets. After soldiers at the barracks instantly returned fire, the terrorists fled under cover of darkness.

A large-scale operation was initiated in the district to find and arrest the fugitive terrorists, and no injuries or deaths were caused by the attack, the mayor of the town, İbrahim Dündar, said.
