At least eight killed in Bitlis bomb attack

Five policemen and three civilians died today in Güroymak district of the southeastern province Bitlis in a suspected roadside bomb explosion.

A bomb that was planted in a manhole went off while a police vehicle was passing, just outside Güroymak, security sources said.

Bitlis Gov. Nurettin Yılmaz told reporters in the eastern city that five police officers and three civilians were killed in the explosion, which was caused by a remote-controlled bomb. “Four other people were injured and are now receiving treatment at the Bitlis State Hospital,” he said. Four policemen, two civilians hurt in Turkey bomb blast

A makeshift bomb went off during a demonstration by supporters of the Kurdish separatist group PKK in southern Turkey Sunday, injuring four policemen and two civilians, media reported.

The device, hidden behind a trash can, exploded in the town of Sehan in southern Adana province as “our security forces intervened to stop a banned protest, injuring six people, including two civilians, Anatolia news agency quoted Adana governor Huseyin Avni Cos as saying.

“Two police officers are in serious condition,” the governor said.

Terrorists kill one police officer in Iskenderun town

One police officer was killed and three others wounded when terrorists opened fire on a police station in Iskenderun town of southern province of Hatay on Thursday.

Turkish foreign minister: we don’t have patience for terrorist act

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said that Turkey did not have a patience for a terrorist act on Iraqi soil, which would pose a threat against Turkey.

Holding a joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari in Ankara on Thursday, Davutoglu said that they mostly discussed terrorism issue, adding that a terrorist structure that nested in Iraq was a threat against territorial integrity of both Turkey and Iraq. 4 more teachers released amid bombings in SE Turkey

The outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has released four of the teachers it kidnapped more than a week before, bringing the total number of teacher hostages down to four.

Gökhan Yıldız, Abdullah Karan, İhsan Sarıkaya and İsmail Yüce were released Oct. 5 near the village of Çevrecik in the eastern province of Elazığ’s Arıcak district. Ankara car bombing death toll climbs to 4

The death toll from last month’s car bombing in Ankara rose to four Monday after a critically wounded man died in hospital.

Tuncay Acar succumbed to his injuries at Ankara’s Numune Hospital, where he had been in intensive care since the Sept. 20 blast. Surgeons had earlier removed part of the critically injured man’s lung.

The explosion on a busy street in central Ankara was claimed by the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons, or TAK, an offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK. Read the rest of this entry »



Three PKK militants killed in military operation in SE Turkey

Turkish soldiers engaged suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, in the southeastern Hakkari province, killing alleged leading militant of PKK for Mount Kato, daily Milliyet reported on its website Saturday.
